HAPPENING NOW!
Eugene Film Society’s 72-Hour Horror Film Competition returns for a 10th season this October, thanks to the generous support of Emerald Broadband.
Competition Overview
From Thursday, October 16th, 2025 through Sunday, October 19th, 2025, local and regional filmmakers are invited to compete to produce the best 3-minute horror film within 72 hours, incorporating a mandated line of dialogue and prop. Films submitted by deadline will be screened by a jury of media professionals, and a public audience at the McDonald Theatre (1010 Willamette St.) on October 26th, 2025.
The film selected “Jury Award” winner will receive a $1134 cash prize, and the film voted “Audience Award” winner by the screening event audience will also receive a $666 cash prize.
Additionally, awards will be given for excellence in several categories, with prize packages provided by sponsoring businesses. Winners will be announced at a ceremony immediately following the screening.

Kick-Off Thursday, October 16th
All competing teams must register by 7:59pm on Thursday, October 16th, 2025. Registered filmmakers must check in at the Art House cinema on Thursday, October 16th, 2025 between 4:00pm-8:00pm where they will be notified of the mandated line of dialogue and prop. This is a casual drop-in event, so filmmaking teams can check in and dive right into the creative process.
Meet the Deadline
Completed films must be returned via USB drive at the Art House, or via GoogleDrive, DropBox or WeTransfer, no later than 8:00pm on Sunday, October 19th, 2025.
Screening Horror Films
Films submitted by deadline, and meeting all specifications and guidelines, will be screened publicly at the McDonald Theatre on October 26, 2025. Audience members at the public screenings will be invited to vote for their favorite film and determine the 2025 “Audience Award” winner.
Tickets for the public screening are offered for $12 General Admission, and are available for purchase NOW at THIS LINK.
Scholarships Available
If you would like to compete but cannot afford the $35 registration, we are offering a limited number of scholarship packages. Scholarships will include waived registration fees and 4 free tickets to the screening event. Requirements to qualify include a sample of previous video work, and a short written submission. Remote Participation
If you are not in the immediate area and/or are unable to check in for the kick-off in person, we are happy to make reasonable accommodations for remote participation, but arrangements must be made in advance. Please indicate on the registration form if you plan to participate remotely, and we will reach out to you to outline the standards for remote participation and submission.
